It never ceases to amaze me how God guides and directs the paths that we take in life. God certainly knows what's best for us and his plans for us are good. Hence, finding myself working for PACE once again, but this time as a Pastoral Care Worker for Branksome Heath Middle School.
Six months ago, with the experience of being a Schoolsworker, Youthworker and a Teaching Assistant, I entered the job with enthusiasm and a little naively. I mean, how hard can it be being a Pastoral Care Worker? The answer: It's hard work!! I quickly discovered how demanding and emotionally challenging the job can be, yet at the same time rewarding, enjoyable and fun!
Life at Branksome Heath Middle School (or any school for that matter) is so fast paced. It often feels like being in a film that is being fast forwarded, and everybody just whizzes round until the stop button is pressed at the end of the school day, when the last pupil walks out through the school gates. Within that day there are children who need that extra support, and those words of encouragement. This is where Pastoral Care Work comes in, I see my role as supporting and caring for the children of Branksome Heath Middle School, making sure school is a fun, safe and enjoyable place for them to be.
I can honestly say that every day is totally different, and the work so diverse. I may take group work sessions, have one to one contact with pupils, and meet parents who have concerns or issues, or take time to play with the children in the playground. A day in the life of a PCW is never dull that's for sure! Watching children grow in confidence and tackle some of the challenges that they face, is humbling and inspiring. Branksome Heath Middle is a great school with amazing pupils, parents and staff. It is a privilege to work with them and I pray that the Pastoral Care Work is a blessing and support to all. Many thanks for your support and prayers.
